DIN 6537 Standard Sizes · Coolant-Thru Drill Depth Ratio
20D DIN 6537 Carbide Coolant-Thru Drills
These are German DIN 6537 standard-size coolant-through carbide drills. The 20D coolant-thru drill replaces two-step gun-drilling in many automotive and power-generation applications. Suitable for hardened steel (up to HRC 40) and nickel alloys when combined with the correct Balzers PVD coating. Machine spindle runout must be within 0.005mm for consistent tool life.
Applications
Power-generation parts · Hardened steel deep holes · Nickel-alloy components · Automotive oil passages
Feed-In Method
Use a precision pilot and a very rigid setup. Ramp gently into the pilot, then keep continuous feed and coolant pressure.
Pilot Hole
Required. Pilot geometry, concentricity, and runout should be treated as part of the process, not an optional step.
Coolant Requirement
Internal coolant at 60-80 bar is recommended, with high filtration quality and enough flow for chip evacuation.
